The Italian Grand Prix will take place at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, located in the large forested Royal Park, near the fashion capital Milan. Monza has a very rich motorsport history, dating back to 1922. The original road layout is still used today, including the addition of a four kilometer oval track.

The track was modified in 1955, so that the oval contained steeped corners, which added another six kilometers onto the track. However, this part of the track was deemed too unsafe in 1961, and Formula One racing was limited to the original road track.

Though the Italian Grand Prix takes places on one of the oldest circuits in the Formula One calendar, it is still the fastest circuit, consisting mostly of long straights and tight chicanes. The track weaves tightly in and out of the Royal Park trees, and the main straight and back straight are lined with grandstands that having close barriers, allowing you to get extremely close to the action.

The old advertising billboards which surround parts of the track will make fans feel like they have stepped back in time. The forest remains virtually untouched due to conservation laws, and there is not a single modern building in sight.

Ferrari has always done extremely well in Monza because it is a real power track and that always suited the old Ferrari team who invested lots into engine power but little into anything else. But in recent times, it has become clear that aerodynamics are of importance too, which explains why McLaren also does well at the Italian Grand Prix.

Since cars can reach speeds of over 300 kph at the Monza circuit, drivers must have an incredible amount of precision when picking a point to brake. If they brake one tenth of a second too late, there are significant consequences.
